Read Across America: Grab Your Hat Read with the Cat

It's time for again for the Alexandria Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. to celebrate literacy and Dr. Seuss's Birthday! Nu Xi Zeta celebrates Read Across America Day with a fun and information filled event that includes guest readers, hands-on activities and prizes for children and a brief presentation about early literacy.

Nu Xi Zeta will honor the celebration on March 3, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. at the Charles E. Beatley Jr. Library located at 5005 Duke Street in Alexandria, VA.

Read Across America is a national day celebrating reading created by the National Education Association along with many of the country's leading literacy and youth groups to motivate children to read and generate new enthusiasm for reading.

5th Annual Nu Xi Zeta Spring Luncheon

The Nu Xi Zeta chapter is proud to host or 5th Annual "Spirit of Sisterhood" Spring Luncheon at noon on April 21, 2012 at the Army Navy Country Club, Arlington, VA.At this event we will honor our 2012 Women of the Year award recipient, Ms. Tina Hone (former Fairfax County school board member), present a scholarship to an Alexandria or Arlington high school senior, and honor the United Minority Girls program at Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA.

Nu Xi Zeta Weighs in on Alexandria's 2012 Legislative Agenda

As the City prepares for Virginia's 2012 General Assembly session with the adoption of their legislative agenda, Nu Xi Zeta takes the time to weigh in on the cities legislative priorities. In a letter sent to all City Council members, the chapter outlines the following priorities of interest: 1) HIV/AIDS funding, 2) increased flexibility for unused Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) funds, and 3) supplier diversity in contracting. The chapter also urged Council members to support efforts to restore the voting rights for citizens with felony convictions in Virginia.

Nu Xi Zeta Receives NAACP Community Service Award

The Nu Xi Zeta Chapter was proud to receive a Community Service Award from the Alexandria Branch of the NAACP at their annual dinner on Sunday, October 16, 6pm. We were presented the award along with our 2010 Woman of the Year, Lavern Chatman-Brown.
